Over half of the Glen Head residents come from the five boroughs of NYC – primarily Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. They are attracted by the cleanliness, affordability, access to the city, top-rated school district, and the general attractiveness of the local neighborhoods. The walkability of Glen Head appeals to previous city-dwellers, and the gorgeous parks in town certainly appeal to young families.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Foodies delight at the offerings in this small but mighty town: Gemelli’s is by far the town’s most popular spot for prepared foods, while Heirloom Tavern is an institution for traditional comfort food. For a special night out, La Spezia is a very popular Italian eatery, and kids in town love Choppers for burgers. Kiraku has fresh and tasty sushi, and of course, the Greenvale Diner has been a steady presence for decades. Grassroots is the town’s local natural food eatery and attracts many vegetarians and vegans for their house-crafted dishes.

Things to Do

As with most places on Long Island’s Gold Coast, the waterfront activities take precedent. Many residents are avid boaters who take up a slot at one of the local marinas in town. For families, Tappen Beach is a fabulous sandy beach with great swimming for all ages and a conveniently-placed restaurant right nearby. Anglers hang out around Hempstead Harbor or take their luck out into the Long Island Sound.

For the athlete, Robbie Wagner’s Tournament Training Center is the local mecca for tennis players, and many residents stay active by running, biking, or taking a workout class in town.

A fabulous stay-cation spot is The Mansion at Glen Cove, a historic boutique inn right in town, although many residents love heading east to Sag Harbor, Southampton, or Water Mill for the summers.

Schools

Although Glen Head shares the top-rated North Shore School District with neighboring Sea Cliff, the elementary schools are kept separate. Kids attend either Glen Head Elementary or Glenwood Landing before matriculating to North Shore Middle School and North Shore Senior High School.

However, some parents opt to send their kids to Green Vale School, which is the largest co-ed private school on Long Island for pre-nursery through 8th grade.
