Welcome to Glen Cove

A waterfront town rich with character, charm, and a quick commute into Manhattan

Part of the “Gold Coast” of Long Island, Glen Cove is an economically diverse town with idyllic water views and waterfront properties. Glen Cove has an “urban-suburban feel” with aspects of city life and opportunities to escape to Pryibil Beach, the area’s many golf courses, and of course, weekend travel to Nantucket or the Hamptons.

Glen Cove has proved to be a fast-growing and dynamic city for young families and professionals who crave an escape from the hustle of Manhattan but aim to stay close in proximity.

What to Love

 • A well-maintained downtown area
 • Excellent public schools and a close-knit community of parents
 • Idyllic waterfront areas and properties

Local Lifestyle

Glen Cove residents are often working professionals who commute into Manhattan and take full advantage of the proximity, not only to the city but to the famous beach escapes in the Hamptons. The parents here are close-knit and know each other from Pre-K enrollment through high school days.

Nearby culture stops are such attractions as the Hillwood Art Museum at C.W. Post Center of Long Island University, Nassau County Museum of Art; Old Westbury Gardens and Mansion, which holds regular concerts; Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Theodore Roosevelt's summer White House; the Planting Fields Arboretum and Coe Mansion, which also holds concerts; and other live music venues.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Glen Cove has no shortage of fantastic eateries, especially Italian spots. La Ginestra is Glen Cove’s upmarket Sicilian restaurant for the authentic Italian-fare lover while La Bussola or Riviera Grill offers fine Italian dining with fresh seafood dishes and homemade pasta. Sid’s All American is the town’s infamous burger joint, and Laura’s Waterfront BBQ is a local favorite for casual food right on the water.

For bar food and good drinks, KC Gallagher's is the town’s Irish pub, but many residents also love the ambiance of Garvies Point Brewery, which specializes in small-craft microbrews right in town. However, any local will tell you that the pride and joy of the food scene in Glen Cove is St. Rocco’s Bakery, a lively, family-owned shop with Italian pastries, sandwiches/bread & artisanal cakes that host the yearly St. Rocco’s Feast.

Things to Do

While Glen Cove may be a small town, there is an abundance of things to do during any season of the year. In the summers, the most popular activities are lounging at Prybil’s Beach or going to Morgan Park, which offers a live music bandstand every Sunday when it’s warm. Downtown Sounds handles the Friday night jams in the summer and puts up local bands in town while residents dine al fresco nearby.

For those seeking some fresh air, the Welwyn Preserve in town delivers: the abandoned grounds and derelict greenhouses of this once-magnificent Edwardian estate are now a nature preserve open for exploration.

Many residents also keep active by running or biking along the water and taking workout classes in town or in Oyster Bay.

Schools

There are just over 3,000 students enrolled in the Glen Cove School District. Students in prekindergarten to second grade attend Deasy Elementary School; Gribbin Elementary School serves kindergarten through second grade. Grades three to five attend Connolly or Landing elementary schools. Students in grades six to eight attend R.M. Finley Middle School and then continue to Glen Cove High School for grades nine to twelve.

North Shore Day School is a top-rated preschool in town beloved by parents. Tiegerman School is also in Glen Cove and caters to students with language or learning disabilities. The All Saints Regional Catholic School serves nursery school through eighth grade.
